The airline was established in 1983 as Air Caledonie, and has been known as AirCalin since 1997. The airline's main base is La Tontouta International Airport and is headquarted in Noumea. In December 1983, the airline commenced with the operation of its first commercial flight between Melbourne and Noumea with a Boeing 747 in association with Qantas. In the following years, the airline's network expanded rapidly with the addition of regional destinations including Brisbane and Port Vila in 1984, Sydney in 1986 and Auckland in 1987. In 1990, the airline resumed the Noumea to Melbourne service that became known as le Caledonian Express. In 1996, the airline re-branded to its current name and throughout the 2000s, it expanded by taking on new aircraft and adding flights to Seoul in 2008. In 2015, the airline started a codeshare partnership with Air Tahiti Nui.
Flying with AirCalin
The airline offers two classes, Economy Class and Hibiscus Class (Business Class). Economy Class has been designed with the needs of passengers in mind, offering a comfortable and pleasant space to enjoy the flight. Checked baggage: Economy Class: 1 or 2 baggage items of 23 kg in total
Hibiscus Class: 2 baggage items of 23 kg in total (Noumea to Port Vila) or 2 baggage items of 32 kg in total (Noumea to France)
Passengers are entitled to one supplementary baggage item of 23 kg per passenger for certain sports equipment including scuba equipment, golf equipment, etc.
