Escape to Paradise with Fiji Airways
Fiji Airways is proud to be known as the flag carrier airline of the tropical island of Fiji. The company was originally founded and registered as Katafaga Estates in 1947 by Harold Gatty, an Australian navigator and aviation pioneer. The first commercial flight took off on 1st September 1951 from Nausori Airport arriving in Lautoka on the West coast of the island. Qantas acquired the company in 1958 and renamed it Air Pacific before returning to the original name in 2012. Fiji Airways can now claim to be a major international airline with over 400 direct flights each week to 24 destinations in the Pacific Ocean area. It also flies to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Singapore. Almost two-thirds of the visitors to Fiji arrive on the island transported by Fiji Airways.
Created by a local artist Makereta Matemosi, the brandmark of Fiji Airways is instantly recognisable. The current fleet of 9 aircraft comprises 4 Airbus and 5 Boeing planes seating both Business and Economy passengers. they are one of Fiji's largest employers, providing jobs for over 900 local people and contributing to the charity Wings of Hope to assist school and hospital projects.
