The Grand Place/Grote Market

The city's Grand Place, or central square, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the primary tourist attraction. With traditional architecture and wide cobbled streets, the Grand Place is a fantastic place to relax, enjoy a coffee and watch the bustling activity unfold around you. There's a daily flower market between the months of March and October and often, you'll find concerts and light displays taking place in the evenings.

As you'd expect from such a culturally rich and diverse city, Brussels has a long and fascinating history, making it an ideal holiday location for history enthusiasts. Head to the Maison du Roi or the city's museum, which literally translates as 'the King's house'. The museum tells the history of the city through exhibits and attractions over three floors and covers the Middle Ages to modern times.

Did you know that Belgium has more comic strip artists per square kilometre than anywhere else? If you're a cartoon lover, the Centre Belge de la Bande Dessinee, or Belgian Comic Strip Centre is well worth a visit. Embark on the journey of a comic strip artist as they take their vision from the concept stage to the point of sale. There's over 5,000 drawings to marvel at, as well as a delightful section dedicated to the national cartoon character hero, TinTin.

Bruparck

If you don't have the time or budget to take in all of the famous sights of the European Union, then you'll love Bruparck. This is a leisure park featuring Kinepolis (a 27-cinema complex), a planetarium, water park called L'Oceade and a display featuring some of the most iconic buildings of the countries of the European Union, scaled down to one-25th of their original size. There's no better way to see a French TGV train or hear the chimes of Big Ben without going there yourself.

At the Place du Grand Sablon, the discerning antique enthusiast can look through the wares at the antiques market and find that perfect piece they've been waiting for.
